I’m happy to announce that I have been given the opportunity to redesign my church’s website. I’m excited to present the new setup to you, and to explain a few things regarding it.
First of all, the website: lbctacoma.com.
The first thing you might notice about the site is that it is a one-page site. While many church websites have multiple pages for different aspects of the ministry, I decided while building to do ours in a single page. There are a number of reasons for this. One is that none of our current ministries require extensive direct online contact with the outside world. In other words, we don’t need separate communication channels, branding, or design for our ministries. A second is that I have found over the last couple years that a one-page website often manages to be more effective and impactful than even a very similar multi-page site. A third is the simple fact that a one-page site is easier to build, edit, and manage than a multi-page site.
A second thing that might be noticed is the relative simplicity of the information. Instead of a lengthy statement of faith, there is a simple section about our most important beliefs. That is not because there’s anything wrong with a long statement of faith! But in a one-page site, it is best to keep all sections from being too large or complex. Everything ought to be understood at a glance if possible.
Finally, the design uses a lot of very modern style cues–sans-serif fonts, clean lines, rounded images and spaces. It is my opinion that websites should be modern and should look current. That means updating every couple of years with a new style and design to avoid looking dated. Some may feel differently, and I am excited to work with any ministry on their preferences, but that is my philosophy.
I look forward to hearing what folks think of the site!
